The Beautiful Long Red Box from Japan.

My husband learned his lesson early when we were first married. I told him on our first Valentines Day together that I didn't need flowers delivered because every Friday for over a year (because we dated long distance) he sent me flowers. He didn't, at that time, understand, newlywed wife speak for, "I want flowers delivered".

We were chatting on the phone on that first Valentines Day and I told him that I hope the delivery service didn't leave the flowers in the Sun.

When I got home there were the most beautiful Red roses in the living room with a poem he had written. At first I was delighted and then pensive. How did the flowers get in the living room? Back story: He had taken me at my word and did not order flowers. He sent his admin out to find the flowers and he had rushed home and put them in the living room before I got home. I called him at his office and thanked him for the roses and told him I was wondering how they got in the house? He confessed, we laughed, he got it.

It's been 13 years, he now knows when and how to translate my real "wife speak".

Recently he went to China and Japan and I hinted in "wife speak" that IF he had time I would love a pearl necklace but I did understand (and I truly did) that he wouldn't have much free time so, not to worry if he couldn't.

He came home after a long week away. We don't like to be a part, seeing his handsome face and beautiful smile always make my heart skip a beat even when he just comes home from work.

He went straight to his suitcase and pulled out a bag and said, "Of course you knew I would bring you something home." I was delighted but truly wasn't expecting anything.  He handed me a long beautiful red box, I squealed, pearls, he didn't have too. I opened the box. Inside were the most beautiful set of lacquered chop sticks with inlaid mother of pearl flowers. Inlaid mother of pearl.

I will always cherish those chopsticks, he understands, "wife speak" which over the years means, "take me at my word" but next time if I ask for a pearl necklace try not to bring home a long red box from Japan.
